Vibram Obex Midrange Driver

The Vibram company has been in business since 1937, they have been making the most well known and most popular boot soles for many of the best shoe manufacturers. If you own performance boots, I'm sure that you have had boots with Vibram soles. They are also the manufacture of the FiveFinger shoes that started a new trend in minimalist running shoes.
A few years ago, Vibram decided to get into the business of making disc golf discs. Vibram discs have a rubber based compound composition, unlike all other disc golf discs that are made from different types of plastic. The advantages of the rubber based compound are discs that have a better grippy feel so they don't slip out of your hand, as well as hold up better to the abuse golf discs get from hitting trees while flying at high speeds.
I recently added a third Vibram disc to my bag. I have a Trak fairway driver, a Summit putter, and now an Obex midrange. Vibram says that the Obex is an overstable midrange that loves a headwind, and has a very long glide. Marshal Street has the disc speed rating at 5. The Obex is the same speed as the Discraft Wasp, and the Innova Gator, and a touch more stable.
A little about me and my discs. I carry 16 discs in my bag, 1 lightning, now 3 Vibram, and 12 Discraft. I Use a Buzzz on most every midrange shot I take, because it always goes where I want it to go, unless it's windy. The Buzzz is just no good in the wind. I was really looking for a midrange that will handle the wind. the Wasp was my choice, but I wasn't satisfied with it's performance.
I got the Obex out of the mailbox and wanted to try it out, luckily the next day there was a 30 to 35 mph wind. I was excited to give the Obex a try in the wind. I went to the park and took a couple of throws, and it flew straight and flat. I then threw 5 throws in a row with anhyzer turning into the wind. It stayed online turning into the wind all 5 times.
I was impressed. With a headwind and a tailwind, the disc did what I wanted and expected it to do. I then threw a bunch of forehand shots, hyzer and anhyzer, the disc performed well in the wind going where I wanted it to go. The Obex has replaced the Wasp in my bag.
The only negative that I can even say about the disc may be, because of the rubber compound, the disc gets soft and bendy if it lays in the sun for a period of time. It changed the feel of the disc, although it didn't seem to affect the performance of the disc. There are not many times that the disc would be laying in the direct sun for very long in a game situation, so it's not really an issue.
Regardless if you are a Discraft guy, or an Innova guy, or if you will use whatever works best, you need to give Vibram a try and see what they are doing in disc golf. I can tell you, you won't be disappointed if you do. A great selection of Vibram discs are available at one of the best disc dealers in the business, right here in Minnesota, gotta go gotta throw.
